Stila, Benefit Cosmetics + Tarte Foundation Review!

Foundation and I have a love/hate relationship. Love to try new ones, hate spending all my money on them. Unfortunately, with my oily, acne-prone, temperamental skin (curse my genes) I have to be very picky when it comes to my make-up. I've been investigating the more expensive brands because I've found the higher quality of ingredients agrees much better with my skin. Since I'm sure I'm not the only one with "sassy" skin, and also not the only one who doesn't want to keep throwing away cash on foundation, I'm sharing the results with you all!

First up:

Why I bought it: Oil free, full coverage, stays all day. Definitely all the things I need! Love that it included a concealer with a brush as well.

The final verdict: Love the formula! Not too thick but very creamy consistency. When used with the concealer, definitely got full coverage. However, the concealer lasted me maybe a week. Since my skin is acne-prone I always use concealer, so perhaps if you only use concealer once in a while it'll last you longer. Also, I really did NOT like the spatula-like applicator. I didn't have a lot of control when it applying and it was SO difficult to get all the product out near the end. Would I buy it again? Yes, if I can't find another product that's formula I like just as well with a different applicator.

Next I've got:

Why I bought it: After I ran out of my Stila foundation, I wanted to try out this Hello Flawless foundation because every time I walked into Ulta someone asked me if I wanted to try it. I caved and let one of the girls there sit me down and test it. I told her all about my skin issues and this foundation seemed to be the right fit for me. Oil free yet hydrating with light-medium coverage. I took a chance on a foundation that wasn't full coverage because my skin was actually behaving at the time.

The final verdict: Honestly, not my fave. I enjoyed it for the first couple of days but once my skin got used to the formula I noticed a few things. Since the formula was a lot more liquid-y than I thought I noticed that even though it was oil free, I sure didn't look or feel oil free. And I also noticed that after a 9-hour day at work, the product would sort of collect in places around my chin and nose. Would I buy it again? Probably not. But if you're prone to dry skin this might be a great hydrating foundation of you.

And finally:

Why I bought it: One of my besties swears by this foundation! I knew I had to try it soon because she's been using it for years. It's oil free, chemical free, full coverage and has mineral pigments. Of all the foundations I tried this one definitely seemed the most natural. Also, it's vegan if you're interested. This foundation also had the largest shade range for better skin color matching.

The final verdict: I LOVE IT! The formula isn't too liquid-y, it's light and almost "fluffy" like soufflé. It has great coverage (I'm still using it with concealer) and it does stay a very long time. 12 hours? Mmm...not so sure but it'll definitely last a full work day for me. Would I buy it again? Absolutely!

Hope this was helpful for you! If you have any other foundation suggestions for me be sure to leave a comment so I can check it out! Have a great week!

  1. Woah! The Stila foundation/concealer is pretty cute, hehe. I've heard really good things about the Tarte foundation, but I still have to use mine up first before I want to try something new. I've tried a few samples of the Too Faced Born This Way foundation and I absolutely love it so much!! But yeah again, I have to finish my current foundation first :P I'm not sure how well it behaves on oily skin since mine is the complete opposite, though.

    1. Yes I've heard the Too Faced foundation is really good! Especially with color matching, apparently they have a ton of shades! Let me know which one you try out next!

  3. I love this kind of posts. Great comparison. Since I have dry skin (in cold weather even drier) I would love to give this Benefit Cosmetics foundation a try.
