September Faves

Tomorrow officially starts the best month of the year. I feel like I’ve been waiting for October forever and it’s finally here! Fall-Holiday-Birthday, I’m ready for ya! September was pretty great, so let’s see what I’ve been loving this month!

Beauty

I’ve been reaching for my Lorac Mega Pro palette a ton this month. I feel like I go through phases with all of my makeup, especially my palettes. I have so many that they are always on a rotation but the Mega Pro has definitely been my go to the past few weeks. My favorite shades right now are camel and stone. Perfect fall shades depending if you’re looking for a warm or cool look.

I’ve only worn my ColourPop ultra matte lip in LAX twice this month but it has without a doubt been my favorite color I’ve worn. So many people asked what I had on and complimented me when I was wearing it. It’s not a color for the faint of heart. It’s probably the deepest shade in my collection but I LURVE it. I’m excited to wear it a ton in the next couple of months, might have to order a back up! I’m really enjoying all the colors I picked up, if you haven’t already, check out my swatch/review! I’m telling you there’s a color for everyone!

I’m not a big hair product person. Uh wait let me re-phrase that. I have several products my hair can’t live without but I don’t usually branch out and try new ones. If you know anything about Porter and I, you know we have blog crushes on Hallie and Jess so when Hallie mentioned Living proof, I knew I had to check it out. I picked up the no frizz styling treatment and I’m digging it.  It adds a little hold to my curl and cuts back on frizz. Sounds good to me!

Media

dsw steve madden booties lorac mega pro palatte bath and body works leaves candle colour pop cosmetics oh wonder music make up shoes hair

I don’t know why it took me this long to watch How To Get Away With Murder. Like am I the last person on the planet to jump on this bandwagon? (NOPE, Porter hasn’t started it yet but don’t worry I’m going to convince her to!) I watched the entire first season in a day and half, and I’m currently counting down the days until Thursday. It’s SO good. I love that it’s not predictable but also not too complicated to follow along with. I won’t spoil anything, mostly because I need Porter to catch up, but OMG.

I’ve been listening to a TON of Oh Wonder lately. I don’t remember how I found them but however it happened, thank you. They’re different from anything I’ve ever really listened to before but somehow right up my alley. My favorites are Livewire, Lose It, All We Do and Heart Hope. But like really, the entire album is praise hands emoji and I HIGHLY recommend.

Fashion

Obsessed is an understatement to describe how I feel about these booties. Number one- I’m just excited for boot weather in general. DUH. But I can’t get over how comfortable these are. I’m talking I’m walking around for 8 hours comfortable. Plus look how stinkin' cute they are!! I’m a sucker for taupe colored booties. Porter linked some great ones in her fall essentials that I’ve got my eye on, too. (CLANCE YOU DON’T NEED ANY MORE SHOES….)

Random

dsw steve madden booties lorac mega pro palatte bath and body works leaves candle colour pop cosmetics oh wonder music make up shoes hair

I’m always trying to up my water intake so I recently picked up some reusable bottles. Really inexpensive plus I’m doing my part in saving the planet, look at me go! I fill 2 up in the morning and try to drink them through out the day. I think it's working, I mean I definitely have to pee more than normal, TMI? These are nice too because the top completely comes off if you want to put a few ice cubes or fruit in there.

We’re never going to stop talking about our love for fall over here and candles are no exception. Fall scents are by far my favorite and this month I finally caved and started burning ‘Leaves.’ It’s the perfect one for the transition we’re in right now. I’m not quite ready for pumpkin just yet so this one is awesome until then. Our apartment is going to permanently smell like Bath and Body Works fall candles and I'm definitely not complaining.

6 Helpful Tips For Cleaning Out Your Closet

I wish I could tell you about the crazy weekend I had but alas, I cannot tell a lie. Truth be told I couldn't fight off the cold that had been lingering last week and actually went home early on Friday. So even though the majority of my weekend was spent drinking tea, popping DayQuil like nobody's business and hanging with Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, I did manage to be productive Sunday afternoon.

I'm gearing up to move next month (praise hands emoji) and I'm starting the slow process of cleaning out all my stuff before actually packing. I decided to be ambitious and start with what may be my biggest project: my closet. But after years of practice, I'm actually pretty good at it and I'm here today to share my tips with you. So let's do this people...it's only clothes remember.

1. Put it on the calendar

Sticking to a schedule helps you track how long you've had clothes. Since I accumulate so many clothes (it's not a problem if I admit it right) I clean out my closet twice a year. I try to make it a seasonal thing. My suggestion would be every 4-6 months. This gives your new clothes a "trial run" in your closet to see if you actually wear them as much as you thought you would.

2. Take everything out

Yes, yes I know it's annoying but this will help you in two ways.

First it causes you to realize just how many clothes you actually have. As you are angrily dragging garments out from the deepest darkest parts of your closet, you'll be thinking to yourself "I wouldn't be so irritated right now if I didn't have so many clothes." Well good news! You just started cleaning out your closet so you won't have that problem very soon.

Second, taking everything out makes it a lot harder for you to breeze by your "maybes." Maybes are much more likely to turn into no's when you have to physically hold your clothes and think about the fact that you haven't actually worn this thing in 6 months.

3. Turn your hangers backwards

tips for cleaning out your closet cleaning donate organization minimal flowers tea

Oh man I love this trick! Since I clean out my closet every 6 months or so, if I find a hanger that's still backwards it means I haven't worn that item in 6 months and thus, it won't be missed. Sorry 'bout ya.

4. Ask yourself "Would I buy this today?"

If this item wouldn't catch my eye in a store enough for me to purchase it still...it don't need that kind of negativity in my life.

5. Ask yourself "Can I make at least 3 outfits with this?"

Versatility people. If there's something in your closet holding you back and taking up space because it's so specific you can't wear it, again, you don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

6. Ask yourself "Does this fit with my current lifestyle"

If you are a 24 year old woman working in a casual business setting and spending your nights watching Netflix and relaxing with your pals, I'm sorry, you do not need a sequin dress you used to wear to da club. Quit that.

That's all I've got for you now, I'll let you know if I have any new tips the next time I purge my closet. Hope this helps! I know I'm already feeling better about life.

It's Friday and I'm in love ... with my nails

Now that you’ve seen what Porter and I are loving for our nails this fall, let’s talk a little bit about how to care for them!

nail polish essie opi nail care burts bees marble

Don’t get me wrong I love a good pamper day and fully believe you should treat yourself now and again. However, I think weekly manicures are a bit unnecessary. Especially when you can do it at home for FREE. …Also when your nail polish collection looks like mine, chances are you’ve got more colors than the nail salon anyway.

Taking care of your nails is so important if you want them to look their best. I mean, you have a skin regime and a hair care routine, so why not do the same for your hands?

nail polish essie opi nail care burts bees marble flowery

I think cuticle cream can make the biggest difference! My favorite is from Burt’s Bees because it’s a little bit thicker than others I’ve used. I try to apply it once a week or if I notice my cuticles are looking a little rough. It smooths everything out and prevents from any nasty peeling around my nails (SO gross). Also, applying a moisturizing cream nightly can help keep your hands looking their best. Make sure you’re using the right nail file too! Some are meant for just smoothing and shaping while others are actually meant to shorten your nails. By doing this, you can prevent any peeling or breaking.

When it comes to painting your nails, the right base and top coat are key. Seche Vite is my holy grail. If you don’t use this- go ahead and do yourself a favor and pick it up next time you see it. I can’t tell you how many compliments I get on my nails asking if they’re gel. Seche Vite leaves your nails so shiny and almost makes them look thicker, like a gel manicure would do. It also dries in record time. I’m talking 15 minutes and I can take a shower or go to sleep without worrying about sheet marks. Yup, that’s right. Miracle worker. You’re welcome. I also really love OPI’s Nail Envy. Definitely a little bit of a pricer product but it’s awesome for when my nails are feeling a little weak and brittle. Overall, it makes my nails feel a little more healthy. So I'm down with the price tag.

The temp says "summer" but our nails say "fall"

Oh yes...we're still talking about fall. Don't like it? Sorry about it. Ok, harsh, I apologize. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I mean c'mon, who doesn't like fall?! We're moving from talking about fall outfits (check them out here and here) and moving on to very important things...NAILS! Clancy and I are ALL ABOUT fall nail colors. Seriously, we were both counting down the days until it was acceptable for us to paint our nails black again.

And we couldn't resist doing a little collab post on this one. So here we are sharing our faves with ya because we are just THAT excited!

Porter's Faves

Personally, black is my go-to color in the fall. Surprise surprise right? Always classy...always "fall". Also, I am obsessed with any deep red/magenta/burgundy. If it almost looks black...I like it. Essie's "Sole Mate" is my current fave and has been for a few weeks now. And when I'm feeling a little adventurous I pop on this sort of matte red from OPI. It reminds me of the perfect fall leaves I unfortunately won't see in Florida this season. No worries, I'll just glance at my nails for that.

Clancy's Faves

Don't get me wrong I definitely love a good classic white nail, but dark nails YAS QUEEN. 90% of my nail polish (trust that there's a lot) is filled with dark colors, I just can't help it. My all time fave is Essie's Wicked. It's the perfect "is it black? red" ya know? Along the same lines as Porter's fave, just more red. Smokin' Hot by Essie is great too, it's an awesome gray with purple undertones. That's neutral, right?

Monday, We See You

Mondays are just hard, ya know?! I don’t know that there is a single person that says “YAY MONDAY” Nope, they just don’t exist. Anyway, are you sick of Porter and I talking about how ready we are for fall yet? The thing is, we’re really just fall kinda gals. Booties, PSL, Bath and Body Works "Leaves", they just scream us. Come to think of it … not quite sure why we live in Florida where we only experience this lovely weather for approximately 3 weeks.

Since the cooler temps haven’t quite reached their way down here yet, we’re improvising. All of my favorite bloggers have already started layering sweaters and scarves and let’s be real if we were doing that we’d be sweating our balls of. So, today I’m showing you how us Florida girls layer.

This green vest has been my serious go to. It works with anything! Black swing dress, add this baby! Denim and a graphic tee, DONE. It's the perfect color for fall but it’s still lightweight enough for 80 degrees. I’ve also been loving cute little tees lately. They work for days I want to be comfy but need to look presentable, aka all day every day.

I'll probably be living in different versions of this outfit for the next couple of months and I can't say I hate it!

3 Fall Wardrobe Essentials

We're halfway into September and everyone is dying for fall to begin! The slightest breeze or drop in humidity has me feeling all autumn-y. Even if my pumpkin flavored beverages still have to be iced for a few weeks. But aside from the fall drinks, I am SO ready for fall clothing! Sweaters, boots, scarves, ughhhh can it be below 80 degrees yet???

But in my quest to save money (hashtag wishful thinking), I'm trying to resist buying an entire new fall wardrobe. So this year I'm sticking to the essentials, three to be exact. These pieces (in my opinion) should be the base of your fall wardrobe. If you have these staples set, your layering items will just "fall" into place...see what I did there. Anyways, here are my three fall essentials that will have you set all season:

1. Denim

Ya'll, just face facts and get yourself a good pair of jeans. I'm talking the kind you can actually live in and feel comfortable 24/7. I've always been a jeans and tee shirt girl, and this is especially true in fall. The perfect pair of denim, boots and slouchy sweater...yeah, I'm about that life. Your denim is your base item for fall, so find a pair that will last.

My faves are from:

Loft // Huge fan of their high-waisted ankle jeans.
American Eagle // Haven't had a pair of denim from AE that didn't hold up all season.
Lucky Brand // On the most expensive side but these are the best feeling/fitting "worn-in" jeans I've found yet.

2. Jacket

It's gonna get cold, you need something to keep yourself all warm and cozy. My biggest suggestion for choosing a fall jacket is stick to a neutral. Now this doesn't have to be black or white, but maybe navy, olive, cognac...something that will look good the entire season and is versatile enough for you to add color with other layering pieces.

My faves are from:

Banana Republic // I love their Navy Field Jacket...especially the hardware.
Old Navy // Always affordable and versitile. I love the length on this parka!

3. Boots

Boots are BAE in my book. Although I live in FL I have more boots than sandals. Going along with my tip for jackets, I like to stick with neutrals with my boots. I'm going to be wearing them often and want to make sure they go with everything! And I'll spend a few extra bucks for a more solid boot. Trust me it's worth it!

My faves are from

Lucky Brand // The perfect everyday boot...I totally just bought these babes and am IN LOVE.
Madden Girl // Clancy just bought these and she looks fab! Again...perfect neutral with a little flare.
Old Navy // Has surprisingly good quality boots. I've had my eye on these black western boots.

Hope this helped you all get thinking about fall! Be sure to follow us on

Sorry I'm late ... I didn't want to come.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been late for everything! I'm talking school, work, parties, meetings anything and everything. It's not that I don't try to be on time, it just doesn't happen. It wasn't until surprisingly, I was on time for something and the person I was meeting was late did I realize how annoying this is. PSA: I'm sorry to all the friends that have had to wait 20 minutes for me to get anywhere!! Today I wanted to share 5 things that have helped me in my quest to stop being late all the dang time.

set alarms
I need to set several alarms to wake me up; snooze is definitely my best friend. But once I’m awake, I don’t always hop right out of bed. A couple months ago I started setting two alarms. One (or a couple around the same time) to actually wake me up and then a second 15-20 minutes later to actually get up. I’m sure I’m not the only one who's guilty of checking all of my social media while still laying in bed, so why not add it to my morning routine. This helps to have my instagram time not cut into time I need to be using to actually get ready.

be realistic
I always tell myself things like “it takes me 10 minutes to get ready” “I can drive to work in 20 minutes” “showering will only take me 15 minutes” None of these are true. I’ve always underestimated how much time it truly takes me to accomplish something. Ever try to watch a half hour episode of something in 15 minutes?! Yup, that’s me! Once I came to terms with the fact that it normally takes me 30 minutes to drive to work, (looking at you traffic!) my drive was so much less stressful. Plan to be somewhere based on the ACTUAL time it takes you to get ready and get there, not how quick you think you can make it happen.

go to outfits
I’m never going to be one of those people who lays out my outfit the night before. As much as I try and be that kind of person, it’s never going to happen. However, I have several go to outfits for days that I am truly running late. It could be a simple black dress and statement necklace or my favorite denim and a graphic tee, something I know requires little work and will always make me feel great. These outfits allow me to stay in bed a little bit longer, and for that I am grateful. 8 AM is not the time to try on a new top and find shoes to match, NO THANK YOU.

make a playlist
Making a playlist that I listen to every morning when I’m getting ready has actually been super helpful. It’s got some of my favorite jams to wake me up and start my day off right. I listen to it in the same order every morning, I know exactly what I should be doing when a specific song comes on. If I’m not finishing up my makeup by the time Florence and the Machine’s Third Eye comes on, I know I’m going to be late! It keeps me on track without me having to look at my phone and getting distracted by snapchat.

treat yo'self
Starbucks is crucial to me being able to function like a normal human being every morning, I know I’m not alone in this! It is usually the reason that I’m (even more)late everyday. When I was first trying to change my habit of being late, I decided that if I was not about to order 10 minutes before I had to be at work, I needed to skip it. This was honestly the motivation I needed. By telling myself if I was running late, I had to miss out on something that I look forward to daily, I knew I needed to leave my house a little earlier!

I hope these tips help you! I know getting out of this habit is hard, but trust me your friends and coworkers will thank you!

Feelin' Blue

Blue is my color and always has been. I love the soft blues that make me feel all cozy and the bold blues that get me out of my neutral comfort zone. And I haven't met a person who doesn't look good in at least some shade of blue.

As we start talking about maybe, possibly, dressing for fall (shout out to my peeps here in FL still sweating but powering through with a Pumpkin Spice Latte) I always like to keep it simple. For me the layers and textures come out and the bold bright patterns get put away. Ok ok...when have you ever seen me in a bold bright pattern, but you get what I mean.

I love a good pair of denim, classic button down and a solid pair of booties. 100% my go-to fall outfit. You'll always look put together without much effort, which is basically my goal in life when it comes to my wardrobe.

 What I Wore:

Denim//Old Navy
Booties//Madden Girl
Sunnies//Ray Ban
Clutch//Market Colors (sold out) but Love this one!

Hope ya'll have a great week! But sure to follow the WDA fun on:
