Adventures in Cactus-land

Oh hello there! Happy Monday everyone, hope your weekend was fun and full of adventures! Or if you're down here in FL, full of waiting in lines at the gas station and grocery store to prepare for the "hurricane". Before the rainy days started at the end of the week Clancy and I had a little mid-week adventure of our own.

A few of my friends on Insta have been posting from this place called the Florida Cactus Inc. and I was like...wait...IS THIS A SUCCULENT FARM?!?! Ohhhhhhhh yes is it. Clancy, our new pal Josie and myself jumped in my car and headed over for the afternoon.

Basically my face the whole time because...succulents.

Funny story: We went into the first greenhouse and were so excited and started picking out some cacti to take home. As we start deciding, this very nice lady comes up to us and says, "Now, don't spend all your time in this greenhouse, you need to look at all of them." I'm sorry, what? How many are there??? "Nine." NINE???????? OMGOMGOMGOMG. You guys we simply did not know! Ahhhhh!

Just look how content I am among the cacti.

Yes yes, he deserves his own Instagram.

I love my new succulent!

(careful of the'll be picking those out of your hands for days.)

This was such a unique and happy outing! I've never seen a place like this. Even though it felt like it was a billion degrees, it was actually refreshing to be around so much plant life. And look at the little buddies we picked out! So cute!

As ya'll know I've had the travel bug for a while and just don't have the time or finances to satisfy it at the moment. However, exploring these local gems and getting to know my own city has actually made me appreciate where I live so much more. I definitely recommend exploring locally, you never know what you're missing.

What I wore...

Sunnies // Loft
Denim // Old Navy
Boots // DSW (similar)

Share with us some of your local faves from your city too! We'll be sure to add it to our travel adventure list.

And be sure to follow all the little adventures on Instagram//Facebook//Twitter//Pinterest//Bloglovin

Have a wonderful week!

August Faves

Another month, another favorites post. Not quite sure I'm okay with how quick this year is going but SEPTEMBER I'M READY. The best time of the year is upon us and I am pumped! Here's what I loved in August:

Earlier this month, I hauled a bunch of elf products and really ended up liking a few. The lip exfoliator has definitely made it into my every day makeup drawer and I really don't see it going anywhere. I'm a huge fan of matte lip colors so keeping my lips in good shape is super important. This guy is convenient and easy and gets the job done. win-win-win

I will never pay $18 for a nail polish but $4 on sale, I'm in. Sephora had this Deborah Lippmann shade Chasing Pavements on sale and I couldn't pass it up. I'm really into the color, perfect for this time of year when I'm still loving white but I'm also craving the dark shades too. I don't know that the formula is anything crazy, definitely not $18 worth but still good.

Dark lips, I love ya. Like really really love ya! I have two moods when it comes to lipsticks, nude or vampy. Right now- I'm ready for vampy. I've been reaching for MAC's Rebel a ton this month and get compliments every time I wear it.

I'm currently rewatching New Girl and it's definitely the best decision I made all month. Probably one of my favorite shows ever and I've watched every episode several times. Nick Miller, you are my ideal man. FREEZE FRAME. It's a good one to watch when you kind of just need a mindless show  without committing to anything with 9 seasons.

Florence + The Machine has been playing non stop. I've been a fan for a while but lately I can't get enough. My favorite song at the moment is Third Eye, so so good. Perfect jams for getting ready, driving to work or while I'm blogging. Basically great at all times.

I wish I could tell you that this month I've fallen in love with eating raw carrots or something like that however, Oreos are where it's at. Sometimes you just have to be a girl and embrace the fact that one week a month chocolate is a girl's best friend. And then sometimes a week is longer than 7 days.

I'm trying to put off fall candles for as long as possible. I mean, can Bath and Body Works stop sending me emails daily with all of the fall greatness?! In the meantime, I am loving London Calling. It's the perfect transition scent to get me ready for all the pumpkin coming up but still light enough because although I'm ignoring it, it's still 97 degrees daily.

What have you been loving this month? Anything I've got to check out?

My Perfect Playlist: Top 12 Workout Songs

Listen, working out is hard. Especially when there are so many other things to do like eat doughnuts and watch Gilmore Girls (100% my current obsession. How have I never watched this show??!!). However, there are some days when I get a little stir-crazy just sitting at work and I NEED some fitness in my life. But I've never been the kind of person who can just hop on a treadmill and run two miles with no motivation. And by no motivation I mean no music. You better believe if I don't have some good workout tunes I will NOT be working out. Period.

But you see, I have another problem. It hasn't been truly diagnosed yet but for years now I've been calling it "iPod ADD" a.k.a. 9 times out of 10 I won't listen to a whole song. Shuffle is my BFF. And this poses a problem while running because it sort of defeats the purpose if I stop every 30 seconds to change the song.

I recently took the leap and started paying for Spotify Premium and my life is changed. 10 bucks a month to listen to any artist or song any time, make my own playlists AND shuffle as much as I like?! I highly recommend. Anyways, I have two workout playlists, one with every single song I've ever thought I should run to and one with my current faves. So far it's been working out wonderfully! I never delete songs from my playlist because just like fashion trends from years past, old songs can reintroduce themselves and have a completely new sound to you. I love that feeling so much.

Ok, I'm done babbling. Today I wanted to share a little baby playlist with you because if you're anything like me, new music is one of the best things EVER! Especially when you're trying to get fitness motivated. These are a few of my current faves I have on repeat and some that are oldies but I still love so much that I just can't skip!

1. "What Would You Do" by Bastille.

So there are normal song covers then there are Bastille song covers. A whole other level people. Ahhhh! I just love this version so much!

2. "Indian Summer" by Jai Wolf

A new discovery for me. This song is 1 part happy, 1 part chill, 1 part inspirational and 100% perfect to begin any workout.

3. "Numb/Encore" by Jay Z & Linkin Park

I'm not even sorry. This song will forever be on any playlist is ever make. My high school self thanks me.

4. "Bloodstream" by Ed Sheeran & Rudimental

Ed Sheeran wins everything.

5. "Heavy Crown" by Iggy Azalea & Ellie Goulding

If you want to feel like a badass listen to this song. OMG.

6. "Salute" by Little Mix

So much Girl Power, I can't even. #obsessed.

7. "CHOKECHAIN" by 3OH!3

This song just sounds like you've put in work at the gym. Or are ready to beat someone.

8. "Speakerbox" by Bassnectar ft. Lafa Taylor

Just wait till the beat drops. YASSSSSS!

9. "The Mighty Fall" by Fall Out Boy ft. Big Sean

From 10th grade until forever... I heart Fall Out Boy.

10. "Bottlez" by T-Pain ft. Detail

Love me some T-Pain. Whenever this song comes on I run as hard and as fast as I can for about 3 minutes. Hellz ya.

11. "Problem" by Natalia Kills

For when ya feelin like a badass bitch.

12. "Berzerk" by Eminem

Because sometimes you just need to go a little "berzerk."

Hope this got you all pumped to get up and get your fitness on! Please please PLEASE share some of your best workout songs with me! I live for finding new music!!! Feel free to follow me on Spotify for my complete running list.

$3 lipstick?! ... I'm listening

Makeup- my love language. There's something about it (as I'm sure you've gathered since 70% of my posts are beauty related) that I just love! It's definitely my favorite aisle in the drugstore and the thing I spend most of my money on. ...except Starbucks there's no competition there, really. As much as I definitely splurge on makeup, I enjoy finding products at the drugstore because they tend to be a lot less expensive than brands you might find at Sephora.

One brand that has always intrigued me is elf, or eyes lips face. It's a brand sold at Target, although I've heard some Walgreens carry it as well, and online. It's super inexpensive and has a wide selection of makeup products and tools as well as skincare. I don't know about you but $1 eyeliner is both great and terrifying to me. Great if it works, but it's also a little scary to see something for so cheap when I've spent $14 on the same product.

I wanted to pick up a few products from elf and test them out for you guys. There's a couple of things I've tried before but overall I haven't really used much from the brand. I figured since it's not expensive, I would grab a bunch and hopefully find some things that I love and can replace some with my higher end products.

These brushes I've had in my collection for a while and really enjoy. The kabuki is one I reach for almost daily to use with my setting powder. I've used the flat top brush for buffing in foundation and the complexion brush for bronzers and blush. All around great for the price!

The BB cream was surprisingly good coverage, although I needed to set it with a powder. The primer was good and helped even out the texture of my skin. It claimed to neutralize redness with the green tint however I didn't see a difference.

I hated the makeup remover wipes. I don't find myself to have overly sensitive eyes but these burned the shit out of mine so NO THANKS.

The high definition powder .... was not my friend to say the least. I can't speak to the product because the packaging was too messy to even deal with. It was finely milled which was nice, I would just like to try it in a pressed version!

Definitely my favorite category of products I tried overall. The palette is amazing! I love the color selection in it and the pigmentation was great! I've definitely been reaching for the dark coral shade a ton. The single blush was very pretty too and can't wait to wear it in the winter. I wasn't too crazy about the blush/bronzer combo, which I was surprised about since I have heard great things. Both had shimmer and I wish they didn't because the colors were pretty and the bronzer would have been good for contouring.

The brushes were already in my collection as well and I use them on a pretty regular basis. The blush brush is actually the perfect shape for highlighter. I find it picks up the perfect amount of product and diffuses it out great!

Definitely split 50/50 on hits and misses here.

I absolutely love the eyebrow powder in this duo. It's a great color and for the price, you can't complain. I've used this before and rediscovered how much I love it. The primer was good as well. Not the best I've ever used but again, $1 is worth a shot.

The eyeshadow wasn't great but also wasn't terrible. It creased when used on it's own but worked as a base. The eyeliner was a complete miss for me. I actually enjoyed the brush, however I had a major issue with the pigmentation. When I tried to go over the line to make it more opaque, it dragged the product and became streaky.

As for the brushes, I'm not blown away. Definitely usable but nothing that was must have.

I was pleasantly surprised with the lip exfoliator. I really enjoyed how easy it was to use. Great for travel and really fuss proof. The only bummer was I'm used to my LUSH lip scrubs which taste great. This one ...not so much.

The matte lip colors were okay. They were drying which I don't mind but I felt like after a couple hours they wore off and became patchy. They were also one of those lip products that you can't just layer more on when you're touching up you need to fully take off and reapply. I really enjoyed the colors I just wish I liked the formula a little more.

To be honest, I lost the moisturizing lipstick 2 days after I bought it so I never got to wear it. Way to go Clance! Grateful it wasn't an $18 MAC one.

Overall, there were definitely some hits and misses among the bunch. Some I'm planning on adding to my everyday makeup routine and some are already in the garbage (looking at you makeup remover wipes). I think elf is worthing checking out; just know that some products you're getting what you're paying for and some are going to hold their own against high end brands.

Have you tried any elf makeup? Anything that I've got to check out? Let me know! I'm definitely interested in trying more from the brand!
