Cutting my hair was a big deal. Like a REALLY big deal. It might sound stupid but I could usually count on my hair to look good. If I was running late, an outfit wasn’t looking quite right or if I was just having an off day, 9 out of 10 times my hair was my saving grace.
I had been thinking about chopping it for a couple months, long bobs were all over Pinterest, Instagram and most of the blogs I read. Plus, my queen Stassi Schroeder has been rocking the most fab hair on this season of Vanderpump (please tell me you’re all watching this, it’s my serious guilty pleasure!)
I finally decided it was time and called my girl Elisa who works at Bangz on Park Ave (highly recommend both her and the salon if you’re in the area!) I showed her a couple of pictures of things I was loving and she just started chopping! I have to tell you I am 10000% obsessed. It feels SO healthy, it looks amazing and was just the change I was craving! I am so happy I decided to cut it, but I’m still playing around and learning my favorite ways to style it.
I’m not picky when it comes to my shampoo, I’ll pretty much take anything as long as it’s going to clean my hair. However, when we’re talking about conditioner it’s a completely different story. My hair is extremely dry and knotty and needs some major assistance in the moisture department. Enter L’OREAL Total Repair 5. This stuff is a serious game changer. It’s supposed to be a deep conditioning treatment, but I have to be honest, I use it every time I wash my hair. It might be a little too much for some, but my hair LOVES this stuff. It’s comparable to the ever popular Macadamia Deep Repair Masque, but I actually love the L’OREAL one waaaaay more & it's cheaper!
One product I can not live without is the it’s a 10 miracle leave in plus keratin. If I had to recommend one thing to gals with hard to manage hair, it would be this. Like I mentioned, my hair is extremely hard to brush because it’s so dry. Ever since I added this to my hair care routine, that is not a problem I deal with anymore. A couple of sprays on damp hair and my hair does a complete 180! Also sidenote, make sure you are not using a brush on wet or damp hair!! It causes serious breakage, invest in a wide tooth comb for this. I’ve also heard great things about the Wet Brush and am dying to try it!
I’m still on the lookout for my holy grail hair spray! Any suggestions are very welcome!! However, I have recently added the Paul Mitchell Hot Off The Press to my routine and I’m digging it. They say it’s a hairspray but I don’t find it adds a crazy amount of hold. I enjoy that it claims to protect my hair from the heat and although there’s no immediate result, the idea that it is saving my hair from any future damage cool with me! Plus it doesn’t hurt that this stuff smells DIVINE!
If you have not ventured into the realm of dry shampoo, I’m about to help you out big time. You may or may not know, it’s not good to wash your hair every day. Hellllllo this is the best news to someone who despises the act of washing/drying/styling her hair all the time. Washing your hair daily strips it of the natural oils that keep it healthy. To keep my hair looking fresh between washes lately I’ve been using the Psssst! Dry Shampoo. The only thing I’m not crazy about is sometimes I find if I don’t rub it in enough, it can leave a white cast on my hair. Other than that, I love how it soaks up any oils and adds texture. Quick tip: if you have fine or thin hair, invest in a dry shampoo (even on clean hair) to help it hold style and add a little something!
As far as styling goes, I have two go to tools. The first is my Chi straightener. I’ve had this thing since high school and it is still going strong. I don’t straighten my hair often, but when I do, this thing gets the job done. As far as curling, my hair is STUBBORN. It does not like to hold a curl in general, and living in Florida with the humidity FORGETABOUTIT. After hearing rave reviews from all my YouTube beauty gurus, I finally invested in a Nume Curling Wand. Probably one of the best decisions ever. I have the Titan 3, which comes with three different size barrels and is amazing! With my new short hair, I am loving the two smaller ones, but the largest one was perfect for my long hair. Basically a win-win-win all around.
(I even like my topknot better with short hair!!)
I really hope you enjoyed this post!
What are some of your favorite hair care products?!
I’m always looking for something new to try with the hopes I’ll fall in love and add it to my stash!
