Liebster Award 2015

Life is good when one of your favorite bloggers, Sarah from Simplicity, in mind, nominates you for the Liebster Award! The coolest thing about it is that it’s all about supporting other bloggers!! Just a couple of quick details about it; once you get nominated you answer the 11 questions that the blogger before you has chosen, then you pick 11 NEW bloggers (must have under 1,000 followers) and you pass the love along. You can pick all new questions, use the old ones or do a mix of both. Like we said, it’s cool because it’s all about showing the love and support to fellow bloggers! You learn more about the gals behind the blogs and hopefully find some new ones to read! Here were our 11 questions:

1. How did you come up with your blog name?
Here’s the thing- coming up with a blog name can be HARD. Two of us had been talking about starting a blog for sometime but couldn’t for the life of us come up with a name. I mean, we knew we wanted to talk about a couple of different things, including fashion. “Fashion isn’t our life but …we dress alright” OMG wait what?! BOOM perfect name!

2. What made you decide to start blogging?
Clancy: I had been lusting over the idea of a blog for the longest time. I love the idea of it being a creative outlet in so many different ways. The blogging community always seemed like this group of best friends and I mean who wouldn’t want to be part of that?!
Brit: I’m a college educated young woman and just not quite sure what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to connect with the world about what I’m doing in the mean time.
Porter: I liked reading blogs because I would learn a lot about fashion, beauty and fitness. I thought it would be fun to write a blog where I could share tips and tricks I’d learned and use my creativity in a new way.

3. Who is your fashion inspiration?
Porter: Mary-Kate Olsen and Sincerely Jules!! (When it comes to beauty inspiration... Essie Button is my girl!)
Clancy: Jessica from Bows & Sequins, Lily Collins & Elizabeth Olsen.
Brit: Serena VanDer Woodsen …but sometimes I dress more like Blair.

4. Who would you want to be your celebrity best friend and why?
Porter: Emma Stone. She’s funny and quirky and seems super down to earth ….plus she looks like she dresses alright!
Brit: I’m gonna say Hilary Duff. She just seems super normal. She made it out of Disney in one piece so that’s an accomplishment itself! And my husband loves hockey, so that would work out.
Clancy: Mila Kunis. Such a serious girl crush on her! I just feel like she would be so cool to do anything with! ...orrrrr Chris Pratt.

5. If you had one week to live, what would you be doing?
Porter: Spending every cent I own traveling the world. (Brit: “in a hot air balloon” Porter: “definitely NOPE”)
Clancy: Wow, I really don’t know. Whatever my heart felt when you told me I had a week to live…that’s what I would be doing.
Brit: Eating A LOT of Chinese food, laying on a beach and drinking mojitos.

6. Any guilty pleasures?
Porter: #netflixbinging
Brit: Ditto
Clancy: We should have answered this question together.

7. If you had one store to shop in for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Brit: Anthropology
Clancy: Ulta. I mean that’s not practical but …DUH.
Porter: I’m going to be a sucker and say that cheating? I mean it IS just one store.

8. What is your favorite outfit at the moment?
Clancy: Leggings, slip on black sneakers, a fun tank and the most comfortable Lou & Grey jacket ever.

Porter: Black Ponte pants, flowy sweater layered with a crop top and my Madden Girl booties.

Brit: Jeggings, booties, oversized sweater wrap. DONE!

9. Best concert you have ever been to?
Brit: 98 degrees. Drew threw his towel at me, some stinky old man grabbed it from me but that thing was mine!!
Clancy: Can I nix the concert and tell you the best play I’ve ever been to was Wicked when Idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth were still in it?!
Porter: It's a tie between Miranda Lambert (we rocked out, we cried, we sang country balads at the top of our lungs) and Fall Out Boy...#thnksfrthmmrs

10. Any bad habits you would like to kick for the new year?
Clancy: Procrastinating.
Porter: Not answering emails or voicemails.
Brit: Boredom snacking.

11. What was the most inspirational book you have read, or movie you have watched?
Brit: Stuck In Love
Porter: Captivating by John and Stacey Eldridge.
Clancy: Demi Lovato’s Staying Strong. That girl is PHENOM.

YAY! That was fun! :) Thanks so much to Sarah for nominating us!!

Here are our questions:

How did you get into blogging?
If you could have anyone's closet, who's would you want?
Who's your celebrity crush?
First thing you do if you won the lottery?
One song on your playlist you're embarrassed by but will never delete?
All time favorite TV show and couple?
You're going to a dinner party tonight, what are you cooking?
What's one beauty product you can't live without?

Fresh Edamame Salad

Sometimes side dishes get a bad wrap for being "boring". And even though they may not be the star of the meal that doesn't mean they have to be! Why not stray away from the last minute chips and salsa and bring something fun and fresh to your next gathering?

My new fav is this delicious Edamame Salad. It's simple, healthy and super tasty! And if you're into trying new things this might be the dish for you!

What you'll need:

2 cups wheat berries (any you prefer will do, here I used spelt berries)
1 can chick peas (you can also sub in black beans, pinto beans etc.)
2 cups frozen and thawed Edamame (make sure you get the kind already out of the pod)
1 small tomato chopped
1 small red or yellow onion chopped
2 Tbs red wine vinegar
3 Tbs extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper

First, cook the spelt berries. Just follow the directions on the package. Usually they take about an hour in boiling water.

While that's cooking, mix together your vinaigrette. I had this handy little dressing mixer but a simple whisk will still do the trick.

Once your spelt berries are all cooked and have fluffed up like so, drain them under some cold water to help them cool quickly.

Add the rest of your ingredients and give them a stir.

Add some salt and pepper to taste and that's it! Boom! You have a fresh, healthy, tasty salad that everyone will want the recipe for! You can serve it right away for chill for up to 8 hours.

February Faves

HAPPY WEDNESDAY! Today I’m bringing my favorite things of the month of February to you! I love the idea of recapping my month with things I’ve loved. I plan on doing these monthly, as long as they don’t get too repetitive (I am definitely a creature of habit) and as long as you guys like them! There’s going to be a mix of beauty, tv, books, music, health, fashion and random things. Pretty much just a list of things I’ve been obsessing over for the past four weeks. Enjoy!

My lips have been so dry lately. Between my trip home last month and the “cold” weather Florida has been getting, my lips can’t catch a break. I’ve been giving them a little extra love with my Popcorn Lip Scrub from LUSH.

Tea Tree Toner Water is finally back in my life. It was missing for close to two months and praise hands emoji it is back. I feel like every time I go to LUSH it’s sold out, but I finally got my hands on a bottle. I love this stuff for after I take off my makeup. I spray about 3-4 sprays on my face, let it sit and wipe it away with a cotton round. I just feel like it takes off that last bit of makeup, oil, or residue left over. It’s a nice refresher after a long day.

This month I discovered the Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser. I’m definitely a fan. It leaves my face feeling very smooth and de-clogs my pores. I don’t think it’s for everyone, it’s a very gentle wash and isn’t meant for acne issues, brightening or anything like that. I like it best when I alternate between it and my Clarisonic & Purity Made Simple.

My Lorac Mega Pro has been seeing a lot more love this month. As much as I love to buy and experiment with makeup, I tend to always gravitate to the same products. The original Lorac Pro palette is definitely my favorite, but I’ve been trying to branch out this month. My favorite shades are Dusty Plum, Wisteria and Cashmere. (If you have green eyes, try out some shades with a little purple in them!)

I’ve been trying to drink green tea daily and while I can’t say the tea itself is a favorite, I’m about the benefits. Have I seen any of the 100000 benefits it claims? Not yet, but hey I just started drinking it. I guess my favorite is getting in the habit of drinking green tea. (PS I add a little honey to mine and I enjoy it way more!)

Strawberries have been my go to snack this month. I go through phases with different fruits, I’ll eat so much of one specific fruit for a while and then get sick of it. Lately, it’s been strawberries! I usually cut a few up and put them in a mason jar and bring them to work. Such an easy snack on the go.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect black bag. I pretty much always carry around a big bag, because for some reason I feel the need to always have everything with me (You never know when you’re going to need something…). However, my bags have never really had any structure to them. I found myself always wishing that my laptop or iPad would fit nicely. I came across this one at Charming Charlie. It’s not my perfect bag, I really wish it had an outside pocket (I need a specific place for my keys and my phone). Other than that, I do really like it.

Obsessed is an understatement for my feelings toward this necklace. Probably my favorite birthday present of all time. I love how simple it is, just a single diamond. Definitely perfect to wear everyday, but also special enough to wear for an event or something. It’s definitely a piece I’ll have forever, and something I’ll always cherish.

GILMORE GIRLS. Okay, I tried to stay away, I really really did. Stars Hallow got the best of me. Rewatching the series is making me so happy! I’m trying to only watch 1 or 2 episodes a night, but let’s be real it’s more like 6. Rory&Jess forever.

I’ve been attempting to get my life together. LOL that’s probably a statement I have said daily, has it ever worked? Absolutely not. No but for real, this planner is the first step I’m taking to try to organize my life a little more. My life is by no means hectic, but I just feel better when I have things planned out and a place to write to do lists and all things like that.

Fall & Winter scents are hands down my favorite. I’m a little ashamed to admit I still have 11 Leaves/Sweater Weather/Tis the Season candles under my sink. There’s just something about them that makes me feel cozy and happy and all the things! However, my all time favorite Spring scent is Watermelon Lemonade. The other day Bath and Body Works was having all 3 wick candles for $12 so I picked up one three.

Hope you all enjoyed today’s post!
Tell me, what were your favorites of the month?!

it’s been fun,

This Girl is Goin' to Africa!

No really. PORTER'S GOING TO AFRICA IN TWO WEEKS! This is not a drill!

I have the incredible opportunity to go to Malawi for 10 days with my all time favorite non-profit Market Colors! If you don't know about Market Colors definitely check out their website They are an online store that sells all handmade products from Africa. All their products are uniquely gorgeous you'll fall in love.

Anyways, I was an intern there last year and haven't really had the heart to cut ties with the organization so I've been helping out and volunteering ever since. Their trip this year is going to work with a specific craftsmen group in Malawi through Children of the Nations. And I am BEYOND excited to get to be a part of it!

For about six years now I've had a desire to go to Africa and when this opportunity presented itself God's timing was just perfect! I'm excited. I'm nervous. I'm happy. I'm scared. I'm emotional. I'M FEELING ALL THE THINGS! This is literally a dream of mine and I can't believe it's happening.

I'm so ready for this life-changing experience. I'll definitely have another post with a recap and some a-mazing pics I bet.

Sip. Sleep. Blog.

Hi all! Hope you’re having a great week so far! I’m here today with a fun DIY that everyone is loving on our Instagram! PS if you’re not following us, what are you doing?! Join in on our fun!!

These mugs are amazing and I’ve made them for several different occasions. They’re perfect gifts to give to your bests (or yourself!) for birthdays, Christmas or just a little “hey love you!” You can customize them for any occasion, with a design, a quote or a monogram, which is why they are my go to gift!!

I have seen several different tutorials for these, and like I said I have made A LOT! Some have turned out…. not so great. But I think I’ve finally figured it out!

What You’ll Need:

-A ceramic mug. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond this time around but you can also find them at Marshalls, Target or even a dollar store.
-An OIL BASED sharpie. I found that this is the most important element. I've tried regular sharpies and they work fine if you're not planning on actually using your mug, but that's no fun!

First, clean your mugs with an alcohol wipe. This helps take any dirt or oil off and gives you a clean slate to work with. Once you've decided what you want on your mug, plan it out. Make sure you’re not writing too big or small and have enough room for whatever you’re doing. Good news, if you do happen to have a little mishap, you can use an alcohol wipe as an eraser. When you’re done decorating, let the mug sit over night so everything can set. Place your mugs in the oven and set it to 350 degrees. After it reaches 350, set a 30 minute timer to let them bake. After the 30 minutes, shut the oven off but leave the mugs in there. It is important that they stay in until they are COMPLETELY cool, I actually left mine in overnight. Although these can go in the dishwasher, I try to hand wash them whenever I can, just to make sure they stay as long as possible!

If you guys try this out, make sure to Instagram and tag us! @wedressalright
We'd love to see what you come up with!!

it's been fun,

Happy Galentine's Day!

When it comes to Valentine's Day you either love it or you hate it. Couples can embrace the love or crack under the pressure of trying to find a reservation at a restaurant that isn't booked. Good luck.

Whether you're excited to spend the day with that special someone or dreading the increase amount of PDA as you're flying solo, finding some time to celebrate the day with your best girlfriends is a MUST!

Not sure when the "Galentine's Day" traditions started but as far as the WDA girls are concerned we learned how to celebrate from our fav Parks & Rec gal... Leslie Knope. So in true Leslie Knope fashion what did we start the day with? WAFFLES!

Ok brunch, we had brunch, but waffles were there! As well as an extra side of whipped cream. Duh!

And you can't have Galentine's Day without pretty flowers, chocolate and some sweet Galentine's Day gifts!

Clancy embraced her crafting skills and painted these freaking aDOREable canvases with a very, very inspirational quote:

"We must remember what's important. Friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, works. Doesn't matter but work is third." -Leslie Knope

After stuffing our faces with delicious breakfast food we headed to the beach for some fun in the sun! (It's called Galentine's Day people, not Galentine's morning...) Beach pics coming soon in a very "spring-y" fashion post by Britt!

And although Leslie Knope is our girl, we had to end the day in a way Ron Swanson would be proud of. How did we do that? ...BBQ!

We had to stop by a local fav 4Rivers for some pulled pork, mac and cheese and fried okra. YUM!!! Seriously if you're ever in the Orlando area you have to stop by a 4R, your life will be changed.

A day full of food and friends? Couldn't ask for a better Galentine's Day.

Hope you guys are having as much fun celebrating the holiday as we are!!!
