More Than A Little Black Dress

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and weren't too stuffed to get out there and do some shopping this morning. In honor of Black Friday I thought it would be oh so appropriate to make the topic of this Fashion Friday the little black dress.

We've all heard it said: every girl should have one go-to LBD. A black dress is acceptable for almost any occasion. But this staple outfit runs the risk of being just a "back-up" in your wardrobe. And I say nay! Don't shove that poor little dress into the back of your closet! You can make the most of it and turn that one piece into several outfits. Here are three ways I like to style my LBD.

I'm a big fan of layering. Sweaters, tees, you name it. But only recently did I start to branch out and layer my favorite dress. Throwing a light chambray top under your dress gives it a more casual preppy feel. And don't forget to add some sparkle with a bangin' statement necklace.

You can always let your LBD stand alone with some fun jewelry but why not throw on a chunky scarf.

This adds color and texture to the dress and makes your outfit a touch more interesting. This is my go-to outfit for holiday parties in Florida where we celebrate when the weather gets below 60 degrees.

My new favorite way to style a little black dress is turning it into something else entirely.

Back to layering again but this time, throw your favorite sweater on top! Boom! Now you have a cute new skirt. The perfect casual yet stylish outfit to wear while you're scooting around town doing all of your holiday shopping.

And you thought the little black dress stuffed in your closet was just a last resort. Nope!

The Walking Dead

(image via walkingdead.wikia.com)

If you don't like The Walking Dead...you're wrong. I'm kidding! But seriously, in my opinion if you haven't jumped on this bandwagon, you're missing out. I LOVE this show! I can't get enough of it. I was a little late to the game so I was fortunate enough to binge watch the first two seasons on Netflix but now having to wait a whole week for a new episode actually might be worse than being chomped on by a zombie. But I shall suffer in silence.

(image via fansided.com)

Why do I love this show? Listen, for me this is not a show about zombies and it's not even really a show about the apocalypse. It's a show about people, real people, struggling hard. My favorite thing about The Walking Dead is that, apart from being frozen from shock nearly every episode, at the end of each show I ask myself, "What would I have done?" If I was dropped in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, would I make the same choices as these people? I like to tell myself I would survive until the end but let's face it I would have become a walker three days after the epidemic started.

This show is extremely character driven, which I love, and this season has done that even more so. It's so cool to see how each character has changed since season one (if they're still alive that is).

Rick went from do-gooder cop, to crazy commander of the "Ricktatorship", to the anything-goes trust no one but us leader we have now.

And we've seen Carl grow up into a little mini-Rick when no one thought it was possible for a kid to survive in this kind of world.

Daryl's still a bad-ass, he always will be.

But I have to say this season my favorite character (and apparently also everyone's on Twitter) is Carol. I WANT TO BE CAROL WHEN I GROW UP!

(image via walkingdead.wikia.com)

Listen, I did not like her at first I totally thought she was useless and was going to be one of the first ones to get eaten. SHAME ON ME. SHAME! SHAME! Carol showed up as this weak, scared, beaten housewife and has taken on this broken down new world and become a warrior.

(image via zap2it.com)

I love her and I love her story. Like, I'm actually inspired by her on a daily basis. Dang, I just can't get over this freakin' show!

Trust me I could go on. I'm thankful for AMC's The Talking Dead for giving me a little therapy/processing session every week after each episode. Sometimes you just have to talk these things out with your peeps.

Next week is the mid-season finale and I'm already prepared for the worst. If you run into me after next Sunday, please be gentle, one of my beloved characters may have become a zombie.

Oven Roasted Garlic Brussels Sprouts

Alright guys, before you click out of this post before even reading it, I'm going to need you to forget everything you know about Brussels Sprouts. A couple months ago, my brother decided he wanted to start eating a little healthier. Obviously mashed potatoes as a side dish were no longer going to be acceptable. Enter the Brussels sprouts!! I know they're not the most glamorous veggie, but I really think they get a bad rep for no reason. I never had a terrible experience with them as a child, but I feel like any time I tell someone how much I love them, they start fake gagging. I'm about to share with you the most delicious recipe that will make you want to eat them at least once a week.

Ingredients:
Brussels sprouts
Garlic (peeled makes life so much easier)
Olive oil
Garlic salt
Garlic powder
Onion salt
Onion powder

Preheat oven to 425 degrees

1- Wash and cut your Brussels Sprouts in half.  Add them to a large bowl
2- Cut garlic (I used two cloves but feel free to use more or less) and add
3- Add two(ish) tablespoons of olive oil
4- Season with garlic powder, garlic salt, onion powder and onion salt to taste
5- Mix together and spread on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil
6- Place in oven for about 14 minutes
7- Take them out and enjoy!!

Side note how cute is this little towel?!

I love this recipe because it's really quick and easy to make. I don't do a lot of cooking, like at allllll, but you can't really go wrong with this one. As you can see, I don't even really measure anything.

How do you feel about Brussels Sprouts? Love them? Hate them?
Let me know if you try this recipe and join the brussels sprouts craze!!

#nailpolishaddict

Happy Monday! I hope you're all reading this with a big cup of coffee in your hand because let's be real, coffee is the only way to make it through Monday.

Anyway, today's some more Monday post is all about fall/winter nail polishes to add to your collection. If you know anything about me at all, it's that I love nail polish. I'm that girl who goes to get a mani/pedi and brings her own color.  Hey, I can't help it that I have a waaaaay better selection then the salon. #WHOOPS.  I also don't know if I should be embarrassed to tell you that if you have an essie color on your nails, there is a 86% chance I can name the color. #WHOOPSAGAIN

Without a doubt my favorite season is fall. The change in weather brings new fashion and beauty trends. Obviously you can wear dark colors on your nails all year round but they're just a little easier to wear in the fall. Having freshly painted nails will always make your overall appearance way more put together, nobody likes chipped nails! Here are some of my favorites for the season.

As you can see, I'm a huge fan of Essie polish. Pictured above are some of my favorites.  Bahama Mama is more of a berry color, Wicked is a deep oxblood shade, Licorice is your standard black, Smokin Hot is a gray with purple undertones, and then Bobbing for Baubles is a gorgeous navy blue.

Although Essie is always my go to, I do have some OPI colors I love. (Plus they win in the cutest names ever category) Tease-y Does It is a deep red base with a gold shimmer, Lincoln Park After Dark is a deep almost black purple, and Jade is the New Black is a rich jade (duh) shade.

Since it's the holiday season, let's get festive. I'm not a huge fan of sparkles on every nail but using it as an accent nail, an ombré or a design takes your average mani up a notch. Some that I love are OPI Glow Up Already, Essie Beyond Cozy, and ORLY Luxe.

Hope you enjoyed and found a few to add to your collection!
What's your favorite dark nail polish? A girl can never have too many....

Airport Life

Since I'm not a real big jet-setter (although I aspire to be), whenever I have to travel anywhere by plane I get all giddy. I always feel like there's something magical about an airport. Everyone coming to the same place to travel all over the world. Ah! It's so exciting! My face usually resembles this for a good 15 minutes.

...Hi Dad!

However, the giddiness and magic fades once I actually step foot in the airport. I quickly realize my ideas about airports are an illusion and my face turns to reserved annoyance until I reach my destination.

So many people in one place isn't exciting...it's hell! I simply do not understand the sheer stupidity of some individuals. Why in the world would you try and bring four cans of Pepsi through security?! IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME FLYING IN AMERICA?? Three ounces ma'am! THREE OUNCES!!! And people, anticipate your next step. Do not wait until you reach the metal detector to take off your shoes! HAVE YOU LEARNED NOTHING!? UGH!

And bless my dear parents for making sure we arrive to our terminal two hours before departure. Enough time for me to get some Starbs and people watch. Wait. Nope. Yeah, not standing in the Starbucks line at the airport, I will surely miss my flight. Thank God there's no shortage of fast food at Orlando International.

Then you finally board and have a moment to relax. Psh...not! Yep, children already crying? Perfect. Only middle seats left? Excuse me sir as I gracefully shimmy past you to find my seat. Don't mind me I'll just be flipping through the ridiculousness that is Sky Mall.

I'll buy it only if I get the Corgi too.

Oh man, you know sometimes things just aren't how you dreamed they'd be. For me that thing happens to be airports. But I'll continue to fly. Because littered among the frustration you look to your left out the window and see something that's quite lovely.

As many of you start traveling this week for the holiday I say good luck and hang in there! At the very least you'll arrive home with some interesting stories.

Leather Details

Happy Friday!!!! Welcome to my first solo Fashion Friday! Today’s outfit is all about little touches of leather. On a daily basis my style is pretty simple, I don’t do patterns and I’m not a huge fan of bright colors. Sometimes this leaves my wardrobe feeling a liiiiiiiittle boring. When I saw these tees, I knew they were going to be a great addition to my closet. I think the reason I was drawn to both of them is because since they are gray, they're still a neutral piece and easy to pair with a lot of different things. The pocket on the first one and the sleeves on the second are just enough of a leather detail to add a little sass.

Not going to lie, leather can be intimidating. A leather skirt is cute when styled right, but definitely not for everyone. I’m eternally jealous of those who live in colder states and can rock leather jackets, but that’s not the case for us living in Florida. These tops are the perfect way to incorporate leather into my every day style while taking it up a notch. If you're nervous about trying out a new trend, just make sure to pair it with something that is true to your personal style. For me, my crystal statement earrings were the perfect accessory.

Plus, it’s hard to not feel like a badass when you’re rocking some leather!
(PS as you can see it's hard for me to take pictures without stopping to have a serious giggle sesh, I'm working on getting better at it!!)
